TOMMY TORNADO
Tommy Tornado is a versatile Dutch saxophonist who brings energy, groove and live interaction to festivals, corporate events and weddings. Known for his powerful tenor sax sound and charismatic stage presence, he effortlessly moves between styles such as soul, funk, jazz, ska and reggae. Whether performing with DJs, bands or as a special live act, his dynamic saxophone performance adds a unique live element that elevates any event and keeps audiences engaged.
Tommy started playing saxophone at the age of eight and switched to tenor at fourteen after hearing the legendary Ben Webster, whose sound inspired him to pursue music seriously. He later studied at the Conservatory under saxophonist Fred Berkemeier and quickly became active in the international music scene. At eighteen he joined the renowned ska and rocksteady band Rude Rich & The Highnotes, touring extensively across Europe and Japan and performing alongside Jamaican legends such as Ernest Ranglin, The Heptones, Alton Ellis, Dennis Alcapone and Rico Rodriguez.
Throughout his career Tommy has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists and bands including Chef’Special, Rootsriders, Laura Vane & The Vipertones, Rotterdam Ska Jazz Foundation and Western Standard Time Orchestra. He tours internationally with the legendary American ska band The Toasters, performs with the soul funk band The Soulsnatchers and the award winning theatrical jazz group The Busquitos, and leads his own reggae project Tommy Tornado. With decades of live experience and a distinctive sound, he remains a sought after saxophonist for stages and events around the world.
