IRIE
Deejay Irie (DJ Irie) is an internationally acclaimed DJ and turntablist known for his exceptional technical skills and dynamic performances. Blending hip-hop, funk, soul and break-driven sounds with world-class turntablism, Irie delivers high-energy sets that combine musical depth with jaw-dropping DJ technique. Whether performing in clubs, festivals or theaters, his ability to fuse precision, creativity and musical storytelling makes every performance both engaging and unforgettable.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, and raised in the Netherlands, Irie started DJing at the age of 12. Early collaborations with Dutch rap groups soon led him into the competitive world of DJ battles, where his talent quickly stood out. Over the years he collected an impressive list of titles, including Dutch DMC Champion (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), DMC World Supremacy Runner-Up (2005), Benelux DMC Champion (2008), DMC Visual DJ World Champion (2015) and Dutch Red Bull 3Style Champion (2017). His skills also caught the attention of the artistic director of the renowned Amsterdam-based Urban Theater Company ISH, where he began combining turntablism with disciplines such as dance, opera and skating. With the company he toured internationally, performing in countries including the United States, China, Indonesia and South Africa.
Beyond the battle scene and live performances, Irie is known for his edits released through the Beat Junkies record pool and his Bandcamp platform. In 2017 he teamed up with longtime friend DJ Friss to form the duo It Takes Two, focusing exclusively on 45 vinyl sets and releasing their own 7-inch records that have gained international support. Irie has also appeared multiple times at Zwarte Liefde, the vinyl only concept by Welly Well, where DJs celebrate a shared love for vinyl and black music. Currently he is developing an audiovisual live show with singer, songwriter and poet Charlotte Beerda under the name Pixel Pocket, combining original music with video scratching and live visuals. In addition, Deejay Irie is the resident DJ for the Groningen-based party Homebase, which regularly hosts true-school hip-hop artists such as Delinquent Habits, Slum Village, Homeboy Sandman and Masta Ace.
